Dangerous Dreamspace’s response from the audience

After my short film was available, some people from my target audience gave their response from it.

Transcript response: “It was absolutely incredible. I love the several plot twists which stirs up my understanding and keeps me thinking throughout the whole film. The use of the same scenario is the same idea as I was fully aware of the scenario that was going to happen when the protagonist wakes up. The film was actually scary in some areas which was also supported by the use of minimal light as well. Finally, the music and sound effects provided really suited the fast-paced situation really well. Overall, it’s a fantastic short film, worthy of watching again.”

Transcript response: “really, really good. The tension throughout the film was excellent. Also, the use of lighting and shading was just right for the film. One example that used the shadows well was when the killer slowly approached Toby with saucepan. I watched it twice because I didn’t want to miss anything. Toby’s performance was great, worthy of an Oscar!!!

I first got some feedback from some of the students in my media group. They both commented on 4 main key areas, which were:

1st reviewer

Positives:

• Excellent variety of shots
• Suitable for the target audience
• Appropriate title
• Clever editing in the titles
• Sound matches to the title well
• Good flow to the match on actions
• Clever shortening of shot durations at the end
• Graphic matches have been done effectively
• Drumming soundtrack works well with the quick character movements
• The effective clicking when Toby hears something is effective

Criticism:

• Lighting was too dark in some places
• Long length
• Killer’s voice isn’t realistic
• Jumpy moments need to have more suspense sounds

• Framing is really good
• Genre is clear

• Conventional opening titles
• Titles would appeal to target audience
• Recommended keeping the drums

• Lighting was too dark in some places

• Recommended a female character

What I’m going to do

I’m definitely going to add more detail into some of the storyboards because it seems like some of my shots don’t show everything vital in the shot. If I do this it will show more camera movements and places where there is a little character development.
